Argentina vs Burkina Faso friendly in doubt as African side stuck in Morocco

Argentina’s friendly match against Burkina Faso in Buenos Aires is in jeopardy as the African team is still stuck in Morocco.

With hours left to the kickoff time scheduled for Saturday, October 3, Burkina Faso is facing flight difficulties.

The African team, which was initially scheduled to travel to Argentina on September 30, had its flight cancelled and is now scrambling to explore options to save the match.

Burkina Faso played two matches of the African Cup of Nations qualification round in late September.

They last won against the Central African Republic 1-0 on September 28, played in Casablanca.

The African team earlier had a charter flight scheduled for September 30 from Morocco to Argentina for the friendly at Estadio Monumental, but the trip was canceled, announced the Burkina Federation in a statement on October 2.

“Since the incident took place, the ministry in charge of sport, the federation, and the embassy have been working to find a solution that allows the delegation to continue its trip to Buenos Aires,” the statement said.

The federation added, after exploring multiple options to reorganise the departure, but “constraints, particularly due to the travel time, have raised concerns among the players.”

According to local media reports, the African team players have boycotted the practice session in Morocco following flight cancellation.

On the other hand, the Argentina Football Association has set 1 p.m. local time as the cutoff time for Burkina Faso to arrive in the country so the game can proceed as per the kick off time, which is 9 p.m. local.
