Rosanna Scotto, the beloved Fox 5 New York anchor, burst into tears on live television Tuesday morning, September 1, while recording her first day back on “Good Day New York” after her mother, Marios Scotto, died at age 90.
The anchor was about to introduce the weather forecast when B.J. Thomas’s “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head” started playing, which triggered an outpouring of grief.
Scotto said: “Sorry, sorry. This song reminds me of my parents.” She visibly struggles to maintain her composure. “My mother would kill me right now if she saw me crying on the air, so we’re going to get it together.”
She also expressed gratitude to viewers for their overwhelming support after the demise of her mother on August 26. “I just want to say thank you to everybody who has been so kind and supportive of my mother’s passing.
She then looked upwards and added: “Mom, I am sorry.”
Co-anchor Dan Bowens comforted her, saying: “Rosanna, you have our deepest condolences from all of us here at Fox 5 and all of our viewers.”
Earlier, Scotto shared on Instagram a video announcing her return, saying: “We’re back in the saddle.”
