Australia’s Marcus Stoinis and David Warner lifted their side to put together 165-run target for Oman on Thursday during the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 at Kensington Oval in Barbados.
Earlier, Oman won the toss and decided to field first against Australia.
Oman’s bowlers showcased good performance and reduced Australian batters to 50-3 in the 9th over. But, they ended up conceding 164-5 in 20 overs.
Marcus Stoinis was the highlight of the day as he hit an unbeaten knock of 66 runs off 35 balls with the help of two fours and six maximums. Notching up a fifty, David Warner added 56 runs to the total after facing 51 balls.
Bowling for Oman, Mehran Khan registered figures of 2-38 in four overs, followed by Bilal Khan and Kaleemullah who grabbed one wicket each.
Australia are looking forward to get the Twenty20 crown after became champions in the Test and ODI format in 2023.
Oman are looking to bounce back from a heart-wrenching defeat against Namibia in their first World Cup encounter.
“We were going to bowl first as well. Green, Agar, Inglis and Cummins are missing. Back of the tournament I am hoping I can be a complete all-rounder. We are excited to start the World Cup,” Australia captain Mitchell Marsh said at the toss.
