Mr. Braugher won the first of his two Emmy awards as 1998’s “Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series” for his role as the hard-nosed Pembleton on “Homicide.” His second Emmy was for “Outstanding Lead Actor In A Miniseries Or A Movie” in 2006 for his portrayal of Nick Atwater in the FX series “Thief.”

He was nominated 11 times, according to the Emmy website.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Stanford University and a master’s degree in fine arts from Juilliard, according to the Emmy website. Braugher got his start as Telly Savalas’s sidekick in television movies based on the original “Kojak” series.
