Israel-Gaza war live updates: 27 Americans dead, U.S. says; Gaza hospitals running out of supplies

Secretary of State Antony Blinken ended his day-long visit in Tel Aviv, where he reiterated the U.S. government’s unreserved support for Israel and met with families of American citizens that he said Hamas has killed or taken hostage. Blinken is next expected to visit Jordan, where he will meet with Mahmoud Abbas, head of the Palestinian Authority, and King Abdullah II of Jordan in Amman on Friday. He will also visit Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt in an effort to “prevent the conflict from spreading and secure the immediate and safe release of hostages,” the State Department said. Earlier in the day, National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said at least 27 Americans had been killed in the cross-border assault by Hamas militants. In Gaza, authorities reported dire water and electricity shortages and hospitals running out of fuel, prompting warnings from international aid organizations of a humanitarian catastrophe. Meanwhile, U.S. officials and the Qatari government have agreed to block Iran from accessing $6 billion in funds for humanitarian assistance in light of Hamas’s attack on Israel, The Washington Post reported.
