SUPARCO chairman reaffirms Pakistan’s commitment to peaceful use of outer space | The Express Tribune



VIENNA:

Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), Chairman Muhammad Yousuf Khan, has termed outer space as a common heritage of humanity and affirmed Pakistan’s strong commitment to the peaceful use of outer space.

He made these remarks while addressing the inaugural session of the 67th session of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS) on Thursday. The session, held in Vienna, will continue until June 28.

Highlighting outer space as a common heritage of humanity, he stressed the importance of equitable and non-discriminatory accessibility, according to a news release.

Khan shared Pakistan’s recent advancements, including the successful launches of the iCUBE-Qamar satellite and the Pakistan Multi-Mission Communication Satellite, PakSat-MM1, last month.

He also unveiled future plans for a rover mission to the lunar south pole in collaboration with China’s Chang’E-8 Mission.

On June 18, the chairman had attended the Lunar Conference organised by the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs, where he discussed Pakistan’s commitment to lunar exploration and international cooperation in space research.
