Georgia’s Condon has 8-game HR streak snapped

A day after setting the single-season NCAA home run record in the BBCOR era, Georgia third baseman Charlie Condon’s pursuit of the record for most consecutive games with a homer ended.

Condon went 2-for-5 with an RBI in a 10-5 win at South Carolina on Friday — a game delayed two hours due to inclement weather — but his eight-game home run streak was snapped.

He was intentionally walked on his final plate appearance. Florida’s Jac Caglianone (2024), whose single-season record Condon broke on Thursday, and Nevada’s Tyler Bosetti (2021) share the record of nine games.

BBCOR (bat-ball coefficient restitution) took effect for the 2011 season, when college baseball switched to composite bats.

Condon, a redshirt sophomore who can also play outfield and first base, is ESPN insider Kiley McDaniel’s No. 1 draft prospect and projected as the No. 2 overall pick in this year’s MLB draft.

In 49 games this year, he is hitting .458 with 34 home runs with 71 RBIs.
