I’d like to extend a bit of audience appreciation to those seated in the front section of the Kennedy Center Concert Hall on Thursday, a sizable number of whom effectively stifled reflexive squeals of terror as a confused mouse darted back and forth across the aisle.

The littlest concertgoer appeared during the second-movement waltz in Hector Berlioz’s “Symphonie Fantastique” — one movement shy of the more appropriately pastoral “In the Country.” Knees shot upward, purses were snatched up from the floor, and everyone did their best to keep focus on the evening’s other guests, conductor Anja Bihlmaier and pianist Benjamin Grosvenor.
