As in Fig. 7, except that the ordinate and abscissa correspond to the surface virtual salt flux F_w (units: 10 psu Sv) and meridional difference of restoring temperature $T_1^{*}-T_2^{*}$ (units: °C), respectively. The blue star denotes the mode with standard values of $T_1^{*}-T_2^{*}=18°\mathrm{C}$ and F_w = 37.5 psu Sv. There is a small unlabeled region near $T_1^{*}-T_2^{*}=40°\mathrm{C}$ and F_w = 42 psu Sv with stable 4TS mode and unstable 3TS mode.
