On October 1, China celebrates its National Day — but this date means much more than a national holiday. It marks the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949 and reflects a journey that has transformed China into a major force in the global economy, technology, trade and international affairs.
Today, China’s importance reaches far beyond its borders. Its role in global trade, manufacturing, technology, investment and regional connectivity means that developments in China can have an impact on markets and countries around the world.
For Pakistan, China has a special importance. The two countries established diplomatic relations in 1951, and their cooperation today covers trade, investment, energy, infrastructure, agriculture, technology and education. Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs describes China as its largest single trading partner and highlights cooperation through CPEC.
In 2026, Pakistan and China are also marking 75 years of diplomatic relations, with both sides discussing greater cooperation in trade, technology, agriculture, investment and other areas.
China National Day is therefore an opportunity to understand a country whose decisions and development increasingly matter to the wider world. For readers in Pakistan, understanding China is especially important because the relationship between the two countries is connected not only to diplomacy, but also to business, jobs, technology, education and future economic opportunities.
China’s National Day is a celebration of its past — but it also invites the world to watch its future.
