Reacher star Alan Ritchson and his wife Catherine Ritchson have divorced after two decades of marriage.
The pair — who share three children together — announced the news in a joint Instagram post on Saturday, September 12. “After twenty years together, Cat and I have decided to end our marriage and continue alongside one another in a different way,” the post read.
“We grew up together. We built a life and a family together. And we are raising three incredible boys who will always be the center of our world,” the statement continued, referring to their sons Calem, 13, Edan, 12, and Amory, 10.
The former couple emphasised that their love and respect for each other will never diminish as they continue to co-parent their children.
Just three days before the announcement, Catherine shared an Instagram post detailing her recent solo trip along with a quote by artist Dan Flavin’s former assistant: “It is what it is, and it ain’t nothin’ else… One might not think of [Flavin’s use of] light as a matter of fact, but I do. And it is, as I said, as plain and open and direct an art as you will ever find.”
One month before that, Catherine and the boys accompanied Alan to Philadelphia as he filmed season 4 of Reacher.
Alan, 43, and Catherine, 42, first met in a high school dance class in Florida. They reconnected during college and began dating, tying the knot in 2006.
In their divorce announcement post, the pair noted that they “want to give each other the room to grow into the people we are becoming.”
“Change is hard enough without the whole world weighing in. We hope, specifically for the sake of our boys, that you will allow our family to move through this chapter with privacy and compassion. Thank you for supporting us as we continue making the health and happiness of our family our priority,” the statement concluded.
