Albert P. Khorev delivered a lecture on Russia-Pakistan relations to students at Bahria University on Tuesday, underscoring the steady evolution of bilateral ties despite complex global dynamics.
Addressing the students, Ambassador Khorev noted that cooperation between Moscow and Islamabad has remained constructive over the decades. He recalled major industrial projects implemented in Pakistan with the support of the former Soviet Union during the 1970s and 1980s, including the establishment of Pakistan Steel Mills and the Guddu Thermal Power Plant.
The Ambassador emphasized that contemporary relations between Russia and Pakistan are marked by increasingly dynamic political engagement, expanding economic collaboration, and growing humanitarian exchanges. He said both countries continue to explore new avenues of partnership in various sectors.
During his address, Ambassador Khorev also briefed students on the situation in and around Ukraine. He outlined what he described as the root causes of the crisis and criticized Western countries for their role in destabilizing the Eurasian region. He further highlighted the Russian Federation’s position regarding the protection of the rights of Russian-speaking populations in Ukraine.
On the sidelines of the event, Ambassador Khorev met with the Rector of Bahria University, Abid Hameed. The two sides discussed prospects for strengthening institutional linkages with leading Russian universities and expressed mutual interest in expanding academic and research cooperation.
The event reflected the growing emphasis on educational and people-to-people contacts as an important pillar of Russia-Pakistan relations.
