The city of Mianwali was saved from a major disaster as Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) personnel have gunned down six terrorists in a gunbattle.
A CTD spokesman informed media men on Friday that another eight terrorists escaped, taking advantage of the darkness.
The CTD spokesman said that they received credible information that a group of terrorists were planning to attack the police and other government institutions in Mianwali.
When the CTD team raided the location, the terrorists opened fire on the CTD personnel.
During heavy exchange of fire, six terrorists were killed in the firing of their accomplices, while eight others managed to escape.
The spokesman said that CTD recovered one suicide jacket, three hand-grenades, an SMG 6, bullets, and explosive material from the hideout of the terrorists.
The spokesman further revealed that the CTD had launched an operation to hunt down the remaining terrorists. The CTD team cordoned off the entire area of Chapari.
The process to identify the dead terrorists was under way.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz commended bravery of the CTD personnel.
In a statement, she expressed the government’s commitment to eradicate terrorism from the country.
