Infosys surveys hybrid employees on household electricity use to track work-from-home emissions, aiming to boost sustainability reporting.
The survey also asked employees to share ideas on saving electricity, if someone has implemented that at home.
Infosys has asked employees working under its hybrid model to share details of their household electricity consumption, as the company looks to better measure its environmental impact beyond office campuses.
Employees at Infosys currently follow a hybrid setup, where they are required to work from office for at least 10 days a month and spend the remaining time working from home.
Part of Long-Term Sustainability Effort
According to a report by Economic Times, the company has launched a work-from-home electricity consumption survey as part of its broader sustainability reporting framework, which it has been pursuing for over 15 years.
The initiative aims to account for electricity usage at home that contributes to the company’s overall greenhouse gas emissions, as hybrid work becomes a permanent feature of operations.
CFO Explains Rationale in Email to Staff
In an email to employees, Infosys Chief Financial Officer Jayesh Sanghrajka said the environmental footprint of work now extends beyond office buildings and into employees’ homes.
He noted that electricity consumed during work-from-home hours also forms part of the company’s emissions profile. Collecting accurate data, he said, would help Infosys improve the quality and effectiveness of its sustainability reporting.
Sanghrajka added that sustainability is viewed at Infosys not as a standalone goal, but as a shared responsibility between the company and its workforce.
Details Sought in the Survey
The survey asks employees to share information on the use of household electrical appliances such as lights, fans, computers, air conditioners and heaters during working hours. Employees are also asked about the wattage of lighting, the use of solar power at home, and other energy-related practices.
In addition, the company has invited employees to share ideas or personal initiatives they may have adopted to reduce electricity consumption at home.
