Assam is preparing to host several foreign diplomatic delegations and international investors in February to formalise Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) that were finalised during Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s visit to the recently concluded World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland.
Marking Assam’s first-ever participation at the WEF, the Chief Minister led the state’s delegation and held wide-ranging discussions with global business leaders, institutional representatives and foreign diplomats. Officials said the meetings focused on long-term collaboration rather than on-the-spot signings, with an emphasis on structured partnerships and sector-specific engagement.
The discussions covered key areas such as clean and green energy, hydropower, power storage, agri-tech, tourism and hospitality, manufacturing, and emerging technologies. Assam’s policy clarity, infrastructure development, improving ease of doing business, and growing talent base were highlighted as major strengths during the engagements. The Chief Minister also spoke about the state’s strategic location in the Northeast and its potential as a gateway to Southeast Asia.
While no MoUs were signed at Davos, government officials said several agreements were firmed up in principle and are now ready to be formalised. As a follow-up to the Davos meetings, multiple foreign diplomatic and business delegations are expected to visit Guwahati in February. During these visits, the Assam government plans to sign MoUs with industries, institutions and international partners who engaged with the state leadership at the WEF.
The February engagements are expected to focus on translating discussions into actionable partnerships, including site visits, project assessments and institutional collaborations. Officials indicated that these developments are part of Assam’s broader strategy to deepen global engagement and attract sustained foreign cooperation.
After Republic Day, Chief Minister Sarma is expected to share details of his Davos interactions with the people of Assam, outlining the significance of the discussions and their implications for the state’s future development. The government said the outcomes of the WEF participation signal a growing international interest in Assam and a strengthening of its diplomatic and economic outreach on the global stage.
