Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi is scheduled to arrive in Lahore today on a three-day visit, during which he is expected to hold meetings with party leaders and address the media.
Afridi will visit the Punjab Assembly, where he will meet the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Punjab parliamentary party to discuss the prevailing political situation and future strategy.
The KP chief minister will also meet senior journalists, anchorpersons and beat reporters and is scheduled to address a press conference at the Punjab Assembly media hall later in the day.
Sources said KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi is also likely to visit Liberty Chowk and some other locations in Lahore tonight.
Liberty Chowk in Lahore is decorated with a special 42-foot-high Christmas tree.
Meanwhile, last month on November 28, Opposition Leader in the Punjab Assembly Moeen Qureshi had appealed to Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmed Khan to arrange a meeting of the party leadership with PTI founder Imran Khan.
Addressing the assembly session at the time, Qureshi said that Chief Minister Sohail Afridi wanted to meet Khan Sahib in accordance with an order of the Islamabad High Court, but the meeting was being denied.
He said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was the province that had made the greatest sacrifices in the war on terror and questioned what message was being sent when a chief minister with a two-thirds majority was not allowed to meet his party leader.
Qureshi said the country was passing through a critical phase and alleged that Afghans acting as proxies of India were interfering in KP and Balochistan.
He urged the government to unite the people, warning that without unity it would not be possible to confront the enemies of the state.
Strongly condemning the ban on the KP chief minister’s meeting with Imran Khan, Qureshi said that under jail rules, an elected representative could meet whenever he wished.
He added that even terrorists and dacoits lodged in Adiala Jail were allowed to meet their lawyers and families, yet no one was being permitted to meet the party chairman. He demanded that PTI lawyers be allowed to meet Khan’s sister and family.
On the other hand, a district court in Islamabad on December 18, 2025, issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against Chief Minister Sohail Afridi for failing to appear in a case related to alleged misleading statements against state institutions, according to a report aired by 24NewsHD TV Channel.
Senior Civil Judge Abbas Shah heard the case, which was filed against Afridi for allegedly making statements that tarnished the reputation of state institutions.
The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency had registered the case under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act.
NCCIA officials and the investigation officer appeared before the court, while Afridi and his counsel were absent.
Earlier, on December 11, the court had issued bailable arrest warrants for the chief minister in the same case.
