Civil society challenges 26th amendment | The Express Tribune

A group of civil society members have also challenged the 26th Constitutional Amendment that brought some major changes in the country's judicial system.

The petition filed through advocate Faisal Siddiqi contends that the amendment undermines essential features of the Constitution by compromising judicial independence and trichotomy of power.

It argues that the petition cannot be heard by the Constitutional Bench of the Supreme Court formed in view of the amendment as "nobody can be a judge in his own case".
