ISLAMABAD – Police on Monday arrested Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Sher Afzal Marwat outside the Parliament.
After the National Assembly session concluded, a heavy police presence arrived outside the Parliament House in full readiness. As PTI leaders emerged, the police took positions and then detained Sher Afzal Marwat.
During the arrest, there was a scuffle between Sher Afzal Marwat’s associates and the police, but the police managed to detain him and seize his vehicle before departing.
PTI’s Aamir Dogar left the Parliament House and departed easily. Sher Afzal Marwat was dragged by the police. Following his arrest, other PTI leaders and members of the assembly have decided to remain inside the Parliament House.
It is yet to be confirmed in which case Marwat was arrested.
A heavy police presence has been deployed outside the Parliament House, and the entry and exit points to the Red Zone have been closed.
The Red Zone has been completely sealed off from D-Chowk, NADRA Chowk, Serena, and Marriott.
Currently, Margalla Road is the only open route for entry and exit from the Red Zone.
