Urea stocks at 0.9m tonnes for Kharif | The Express Tribune

Availability would remain adequate subject to all urea plants operating throughout the year

ISLAMABAD:

Pakistan has urea stocks of around 0.9 million tonnes, sufficient to support supply during the upcoming Kharif season, fertiliser industry officials said.

They said the availability would remain adequate subject to all urea plants operating throughout the year.

However, domestic production of diammonium phosphate (DAP) remains limited, with output estimated at about 0.7 million tonnes, as Fauji Fertiliser Company’s Pakistan Qatar Plant (FFC PQ) is the country’s only DAP manufacturing facility.

Officials said this makes uninterrupted gas supply to the plant critical to sustain production and reduce reliance on imports.

Pakistan’s total DAP requirement fluctuates annually between 1.3 million and 2.3 million tonnes, leaving a substantial gap to be met through imports.

They warned that any prolonged turmoil in the Middle East could disrupt global DAP availability and lead to a sharp increase in international prices.
