Young Maaz Sadaqat produced an impressive all-round performance to help Pakistan national cricket team beat Bangladesh national cricket team by 128 runs in the second One-day International at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Friday, levelling the three-match series 1-1.

Chasing a target of 275, Bangladesh were never in the contest, losing their top three batsmen for just 15 runs in overcast conditions, with Pakistan captain Shaheen Shah Afridi claiming two wickets.

Litton Das and Towhid Hridoy then took the score to 27 before rain interrupted play. The match was halted for more than two hours, bringing the Duckworth–Lewis–Stern method into effect, with Bangladesh given a revised target of 243 in 32 overs.

Das and Hridoy added 58 runs for the fourth wicket — the hosts’ biggest partnership of the match — but just as they appeared to be rebuilding the innings, Sadaqat, who had earlier made a brisk 75 with the bat, struck with the ball to claim his first international wicket by dismissing Das for 41.

Afif Hossain then joined Hridoy and the pair took the score to 95 before Sadaqat struck again, removing Hossain for 14 as Bangladesh slumped to 95 for five.

From there, Bangladesh never recovered and were bowled out for 114 — incidentally the same total on which Pakistan had been dismissed in the first ODI.

Pakistan won the match by 128 runs via the DLS method to level the three-match series 1-1.

Sadaqat also starred with the ball, claiming three wickets, while Haris Rauf also took three. Afridi finished with two scalps.

Earlier, half-centuries by opener Sadaqat and Salman Ali Agha had helped Pakistan post a competitive total of 274 runs against Bangladesh.

After winning the toss, Bangladesh opted to field but the decision did not pay off as Pakistan openers Sahibzada Farhan and Sadaqat put on a brisk 103-run stand in just 13 overs.

Sadaqat, who had made his debut in the previous ODI, impressed with an aggressive knock of 75 off 46 balls, striking five sixes and six boundaries before he was dismissed by Mehidy Hasan Miraz.

Bangladesh fought back soon after, claiming two quick wickets. Farhan, who had settled in, was dismissed for 31 off 46 deliveries while Shamyl Hussain endured another disappointing outing, managing just six runs from 22 balls as Pakistan slipped to 122 for three.

With three wickets down, the experienced pair of Mohammad Rizwan and Agha steadied the innings with a 109-run partnership to put Pakistan in a strong position.

However, as the visitors looked set to push their total beyond 300, Bangladesh made another strong comeback. Both Rizwan and Agha were dismissed within the span of three deliveries. Agha scored 64 off 62 balls while former captain Rizwan made 44 from 59 deliveries.

Rishad Hossain then struck crucial blows to dismantle Pakistan’s lower order. Poor running between the wickets also hurt the visitors as they lost their last five wickets for just 22 runs and were bowled out for 274 in the 48th over.

Hossain was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets, while Miraz, who conceded just 34 runs in his 10 overs, claimed two key wickets including those of Sadaqat and Rizwan.

The third and final ODI of the series will be played at the same venue on Sunday.
