ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a high-level meeting in Islamabad to review the country’s petroleum stocks and fuel consumption amid rising tensions in the Middle East.
According to sources, the meeting was attended by senior government officials, including Muhammad Aurangzeb, who briefed the prime minister on the current fuel supply situation and contingency planning.
Measures Under Consideration
Officials said the committee is examining several proposals to ensure effective use of existing petroleum reserves and manage demand.
Key proposals under discussion include:
Reducing working days for government offices and educational institutions
Introducing work-from-home arrangements in offices
Shifting schools and universities to virtual classes if required
Fuel Price Review
Sources also revealed that the government is considering a plan to review petroleum product prices on a weekly basis to respond quickly to global market changes.
Crackdown on Hoarding and Smuggling
The meeting also discussed launching a strict crackdown against fuel hoarding and smuggling to maintain market stability.
Officials said the government is closely monitoring the situation as geopolitical tensions threaten global oil supply routes.
Important decisions regarding fuel management and supply stability are expected to be announced after the meeting concludes.
