Security forces successfully foiled a terrorist attack on a check post in Bajaur district, killing 12 militants. However, 11 security personnel were martyred during the intense exchange of fire and a subsequent explosion, according to the military’s media wing.In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the attack took place on February 16 when militants attempted to breach the security of a check post. Security forces responded swiftly, engaging the attackers in a fierce gun battle that resulted in the elimination of 12 militants.
After failing to penetrate the check post, the attackers rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into the perimeter wall, causing a massive blast. The explosion led to the martyrdom of 11 security personnel.
The ISPR added that nearby residential buildings were also damaged in the blast. A young girl lost her life, while seven civilians, including women and children, sustained injuries. Rescue and medical assistance were provided immediately to the affected families.
A clearance operation is currently underway in the area to eliminate any remaining militants. Security forces have reaffirmed their commitment to eradicating terrorism and ensuring peace and stability in the region.
