The South Goa District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has issued a bailable warrant against Ola Electric founder and CEO Bhavish Aggarwal, for failing to appear before the Commission despite being given prior intimation. The case is related to a consumer complaint filed.
The Commission had earlier served a notice to Aggarwal to be present before it on February 4 for clarification about concerns in the complaint. In its order on January 20, the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission said that since the two-wheeler was handed over to the opposing parties and since its whereabouts are not known to them, “it is necessary to call upon the CEO and founder of Ola Electric Ltd, Bhavish Aggarwal, to remain present in person to clarify the whereabouts of the said bike and to explain why the same has not been reported and delivered after the necessary request made by the complainant.”
In its order on February 4, after Aggarwal allegedly failed to appear, the commission issued a bailable warrant against him. The order said, “Issue bailable warrant against the CEO and Founder of OLA Electric Ltd, Bhavish Aggarwal, in the amount of Rs 1,47,499 with one surety in like amount, through the concerned police station…at…Bangalore.” The Commission further adjourned the matter for February 23.
The Commission has directed the Bengaluru Police to arrest and produce him before it in Margao on February 23 at 10:30 am, according to Times of India.
In the complaint, a 26-year-old said he purchased an Ola S1 Pro Second Gen scooter on August 16, 2023, for Rs 1.47 lakh, which started giving unwanted sound from the motor. Its touchscreen was also not properly functional and needed to be rebooted every hour.
The complainant said he communicated the errors and manufacturing defects to the company, but there was no response. He then took his brand-new scooter to the company’s showroom for repair. The company took Rs 18,627 to rectify the defect. He, however, added that the problem continued, apart from Bluetooth connectivity.
The complainant, who said the scooter is in the custody of the company, is seeking a refund of the entire Rs 1.47 lakh, along with Rs 50,000 compensation in lieu of harassment, mental pain, loss of value of money, and ago suffered by him.
