Arrested suspects were allegedly planning attacks on sensitive locations in Karachi

KARACHI:

Sindh Rangers and the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on Monday arrested three alleged “highly wanted” facilitators linked to Fitna-e-Hindustan during a joint operation in the Chakragoth area of Korangi, officials said.

Explosives and extremist material were recovered during the operation, they added.

According to a spokesperson for Pakistan Rangers (Sindh), the operation was conducted on intelligence-based information in coordination with the CTD. The arrested suspects were identified as Yasir Arafat, Khuda Bakhsh and Zahid Hussain alias Barakzai.

The spokesperson said five kilogrammes of explosive material, 10 metres of prima cord, three detonators, one kilogramme of ball bearings, 250 books containing extremist literature and a laptop were recovered from the suspects’ possession.

Officials said the suspects were involved in facilitating a banned organisation by radicalising students of various colleges and universities and distributing extremist literature. The suspects had allegedly concealed explosive material at a secret location for use in planned terrorist activities targeting sensitive areas of Karachi.

The arrested men, along with the recovered explosives and material, were handed over to the police for further legal action.

The Rangers spokesperson appealed to the public to assist in crime prevention by reporting suspicious activities or individuals to the nearest Rangers check post, the Rangers helpline at 1101, or the Rangers Madadgar WhatsApp number 0347-9001111, assuring that informants’ identities would be kept confidential.
