Senior civil judge cites repeated non-appearance, orders arrest in two Bara Kahu FIRs

ISLAMABAD:

A local court on Monday declared Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Ali Amin Gandapur and Omar Ayub as proclaimed offenders in two cases related to the “Haqeeqi Azadi March” and issued perpetual arrest warrants against them.

Senior Civil Judge Mubashir Hassan Chishti passed the orders while hearing the cases registered at Bara Kahu police station. The court noted that despite repeated summonses, both accused had failed to appear before the court.

At the previous hearing, the court directed authorities to initiate proclaimed offender proceedings against Gandapur for his continuous absence. Following non-compliance, the court formally declared both Gandapur and Ayub as absconders and ordered their arrest.

The court was informed that PTI founder Imran Khan, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Zartaj Gul and other co-accused had already been acquitted in both cases.

The cases pertain to alleged violations during the Haqeeqi Azadi March — a protest march organised by the PTI in November 2022 following the ouster of the Imran Khan-led government, with police having registered two separate FIRs against Gandapur and others at the Bara Kahu police station.

Further proceedings were adjourned until the arrest of the accused.
