Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif inaugurated the Punjab Transport Company Headquarters and the EV Command and Control Centre in Lahore today.
She also visited the state-of-the-art automatic washing plant for electric buses, where buses are washed and dried through a fully automated system.
The plant uses a recycling mechanism to reuse water. She further inspected the modern charging station for electric buses.
Briefing the Chief Minister, officers concerned informed her that the 160-kilowatt charging stations installed by the Yutong Company can fully charge an electric bus in 105 minutes.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif also toured the Command and Control Centre and directed the authorities to explore new routes for green electric buses. She instructed that the electric bus charging system should be shifted to solar energy at the earliest.
The Chief Minister sought a timeline for the induction of 1,500 new buses and directed the relevant departments to improve arrangements in view of increasing passenger numbers. She also ordered claiming carbon credits under the Green Bus Project.
Maryam Nawaz appreciated the dedication of electric bus staff in assisting special persons and said that the launch of green buses has broken ridership records across Punjab. She expressed the desire to start Metro Bus Service projects at the earliest in Faisalabad and Gujranwala, and directed that more buses be added to reduce passenger waiting time at various locations.
