Staring at wife, threatening divorce or remarriage declared a crime, Parliament passes law – SUCH TV



A joint session of Parliament has passed a law related to the social security of wife and children.

The Domestic Violence Act 2026 has been passed in a joint session of Parliament, which will be applicable to the federal capital Islamabad.

Under the law, staring at a wife, threatening divorce or remarriage and keeping a wife with other people in the house without her consent have also been declared a punishable crime.

The law also makes it a crime to abuse, emotionally or psychologically harass the wife, children or other people living in the house.

In the Domestic Violence Act 2026, if found guilty, a sentence of up to 3 years and a fine of up to one lakh rupees can be imposed, while failure to pay the fine will result in an additional 6 months in prison.

Furthermore, the Domestic Violence Act includes economic exploitation along with sexual exploitation.
