The National Assembly has passed the Election Amendment Bill 2025 by majority vote. The bill was presented in the house by PPP leader Shazia Marri.
A bill to amend the Criminal Code was also presented in the National Assembly session, which was presented by PPP’s Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, while the Companies Amendment Bill 2026 was also presented in the house, this bill was also presented by PPP’s Shazia Marri.
During the session, National Assembly Member Gohar Ali Khan raised objections to the Election Amendment Bill and said that it is the Election Commission’s authority to hold elections and the Supreme Court has the authority in this regard.
He said that you are taking these authorities to the Constitutional Court, which will create more contradictions and differences.
Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar told the house that the Standing Committee has approved the amendment to the Election Act.
He said that if the opposition were in the standing committee, it could have expressed its opinion there, but the opposition does not participate in standing committees.
