PTA introduces measures to prevent SIM blocking for overseas Pakistanis | The Express Tribune

Overseas Pakistanis can contact their respective mobile network operators to avail the facility

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on Saturday announced a new facility allowing overseas Pakistanis to retain their Pakistani mobile phone SIMs during extended stays abroad.

In a statement, the PTA said expatriates would be able to maintain continuity of their mobile services, ensuring their SIM cards were not blocked while they were outside the country. It said overseas Pakistanis could contact their respective mobile network operators to avail the facility.

The authority said the measure would help expatriates maintain uninterrupted access to essential communication services while living or working overseas.

The PTA added that the initiative reflected its commitment to empowering overseas Pakistanis and strengthening digital connectivity at the global level.

Last month, the PTA had reiterated that all mobile SIM cards must be registered in the name of the person using them, warning that the use of SIMs registered to others violates regulations and could lead to action.

The PTA had advised telecom users to ensure responsible use of their SIMs and clarified that the registered subscriber would be held fully accountable for any misuse.

“Any SIM registered in the name of another individual and used by someone else is considered a violation of rules,” the authority had said, adding that responsibility for unlawful use rests entirely with the registered user.
