Finding an Aadhaar centre may soon get easier. UIDAI plans to raise full-fledged enrolment and update centres from 88 to 473 by September 2026, easing access for millions
Some Aadhaar details, such as address updates, can be done online from home. However, biometric updates, including fingerprints and iris scans, require a visit to an Aadhaar centre. Changes to name or photograph also need in-person verification. All such services will be available at the upcoming centres.Although most Indians already have Aadhaar, the remaining number without it still runs into lakhs due to the country’s large population. NRIs and foreign nationals often face difficulties while applying. To help people locate nearby centres easily, UIDAI has partnered with Google, allowing Aadhaar centre locations to be viewed on Google Maps.Amid stricter checks on illegal immigration, Aadhaar enrolment for new applicants now involves field-level verification. District authorities will confirm whether the applicant is residing in India before issuing Aadhaar. Officials stress that while foreign nationals living in India can obtain Aadhaar, it does not serve as proof of citizenship.UIDAI has tightened rules around changes to date of birth to improve data accuracy. Since a person cannot legally have two different dates of birth, corrections are allowed only once, and only with an affidavit if an error was made earlier. Any further changes are strictly prohibited.Parents are advised to be cautious while providing details during Aadhaar enrolment for children. Giving incorrect information, especially about date of birth, can attract legal action. In one case, an FIR was filed after parents submitted false details, following directions from the Allahabad High Court. The expansion of Aadhaar services is being seen as another step towards strengthening Digital India. With more centres coming up by September 2026, genuine beneficiaries are expected to receive faster services while misuse is curbed. Aadhaar today is more than just an ID — it is a key link to government schemes and services.
