Rob Reiner’s candid remarks about his dad before death surface

Rob Reiner’s remarks about his father resurface

Three months before his death, Rob Reiner shed light on his relationship with his father, Carl Reiner, which he said shaped his views on parenting.

“I felt that my father didn’t, you know, love me or understand me,” the late director said on the radio show Fresh Air.

Rob’s father, himself, was a well-known director who helmed The Dick Van Dyke Show, as well as The Jerk.

But the father-son duo relationship was not ideal. This influenced the Misery filmmaker regarding how he would raise his children.

“I was never, ever too busy,” he said, adding, “I mean, if anything, I was the other way. I was more hands-on and trying to do whatever I thought I could do to help.”

In the same interview, Rob weighed in on his relationship with Nick, stating, “He’s been great. He hasn’t been doing drugs for over six years. I mean, he’s in a really good place.”

As of now, Nick is charged with killing his parents, Rob and Michelle. Amid the trial, speculations take a front seat, wondering if he will plead insanity given his past mental health issues and substance issues.

However, Neama Rahmani, an attorney in West Coast Trial Lawyers, tells People, “To be found not guilty by reason of insanity, that is a very difficult legal hurdle to overcome in California.”

“You have to prove, between disease or defect, that the defendant does not know the nature and consequences of his actions. Essentially, you have to show that the defendant doesn’t know right from wrong,” the lawyer notes.

“Jurors almost always reject this defense. It only works a very small percentage of the time,” Naema says, referring to the fact that pleading insanity does not guarantee a lenient sentence.

It is pertinent to mention that lawyer Alan Jackson is defending Nick in court.
