Benchmark equity indices Sensex and Nifty extended their losses on Tuesday, pressured by continued foreign fund outflows, a weak rupee and muted cues from global markets.
Around 10 am, the Sensex was down 490.80 points, or 0.58 per cent, at 84,722.56, while the Nifty declined 145.90 points, or 0.56 per cent, to 25,881.40, slipping below the 25,900 mark.
Within the Nifty50 basket, Axis Bank, Eternal and JSW Steel were among the top losers, falling as much as 4 per cent. Nestle India and Bharti Airtel bucked the trend, gaining up to 1 per cent. Market breadth stayed negative, with 1,459 stocks advancing, 1,672 declining and 161 remaining unchanged.
