On 9th December, marking International Anti-Corruption Day, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s resolve to eliminate corruption through robust and effective measures. In a statement issued by the PM Office, he emphasized that combating financial corruption remains a top priority for the government.

Speaking on the day observed under the theme “Uniting with Youth Against Corruption: Shaping Tomorrow’s Integrity”, the prime minister highlighted the importance of involving young people in preventing corruption, noting that youth are Pakistan’s most valuable asset for building a peaceful, prosperous, and developed future.

PM Shehbaz Sharif stressed that financial corruption weakens national development, social cohesion, economic growth, and public trust.

He commended the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and other relevant institutions for their diligent efforts to ensure accountability at all levels, including administrative, financial, and institutional.

He further noted that timely redressal of citizens’ grievances, especially those affected by organized financial crimes, has strengthened public trust in NAB.

The prime minister also highlighted Pakistan’s active cooperation with the international community under the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC), including the signing of MoUs on mutual legal assistance to combat corruption globally.

Concluding his message, PM Shehbaz Sharif called for unity and shared commitment to achieving a transparent, just, and prosperous Pakistan, urging all citizens to renew their pledge against corruption.

“Together with the federal and provincial governments, as well as all with the involvement of all segments and leaders of the society, we will continue the struggle against corruption with even effectiveness,” he added.
