Billionaire Wealth Jumps 13% Globally; India’s Successors to Inherit USD 382 Billion
India’s billionaire count rose from 185 to 188, even as overall billionaire wealth saw a mild, according to the UBS Billionaire Ambitions Report 2025.
The country’s next generation is gearing up for one of the biggest wealth shifts in the country’s history, with heirs expected to receive nearly USD 382.4 billion over the next 15 years, the highest in South & East Asia, the report added
With several Indian billionaires aged 70 and above, inheritance-driven wealth is set to play a more important role in the coming decade.
Globally, billionaire wealth hit a new record of USD 15.8 trillion, powered by technology-led gains and a sharp rise in first-generation entrepreneurs.
Globally, 196 people became self-made billionaires this year — the highest since 2021 — driven by sectors such as AI, marketing software, genetics, crypto and infrastructure. The report notes that innovation is coming from “diverse, traditional and emerging sectors,” signalling a broad-based shift rather than a tech-only boom.
Another important trend is the mindset of the global ultra-rich. A massive 82% of billionaires want their children to build independent careers instead of relying solely on inherited wealth.
The report also highlights high mobility among the wealthy — 36% have relocated at least once for quality of life, tax efficiency or geopolitical safety.
