Categorically rejecting the 27th Constitutional Amendment, Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman on Tuesday said that granting judicial immunity to any individual was contrary to the principles of the Quran and Sunnah.
Speaking at the Lahore Press Club, the JI emir alleged that the debate surrounding the 26th, 27th, 28th and now the 29th amendments betrayed attempts to disturb the balance of power between state institutions and the judiciary.
Recalling that the JI had opposed similar amendments in the past, he maintained that no individual should be exempt from accountability under Islamic or constitutional principles.
