In a significant diplomatic engagement, the Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Dr. Musadik Malik, received the Ambassador of Nepal, H.E. Ms. Rita Dhital, for a courtesy call at the Ministry in Islamabad today.
The meeting reflected the growing momentum for regional cooperation, as both leaders addressed matters concerning peace, stability, and climate resilience in South Asia.
Dr. Malik reaffirmed Pakistan’s principled stance on peace, stating, “Pakistan has always supported regional peace and stability. However, this aspiration should never be mistaken for weakness.” Referring to recent regional tensions, he lamented the loss of lives and criticized what he termed as India’s “failed attempt to assert hegemonic dominance.” He welcomed the restoration of peace, emphasizing the importance of diplomacy in resolving disputes.
Ambassador Dhital conveyed Nepal’s relief over the de-escalation between Pakistan and India and recognized the difficult challenges faced by Islamabad in the current geopolitical climate. She also praised Pakistan’s leadership role in climate advocacy and its efforts to address global environmental concerns.
During the discussion, Ambassador Dhital extended a formal invitation to Dr. Malik to participate in the inaugural session of the upcoming Regional Climate Dialogue Forum in Nepal. The event is expected to bring together climate ministers from across South Asia and other regions, with a focus on fostering cooperation through a non-binding declaration.
Both sides concluded the meeting by reaffirming that climate change remains one of the most pressing global challenges. They stressed the need for strengthened regional partnerships and a unified response to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change across South Asia.
The meeting marks a renewed commitment to multilateral dialogue and cooperation in the face of shared regional challenges.
