RAWALPINDI – Director General of Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said Azm-e-Istehkam is not a military operation.
He is addressing the key press conference today to brief media on security situation, as well as internal and external challenges.
Last month, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s cabinet had given final approval to ‘Operation Azm-e-Istehkam’, to implement Revised National Action Plan, despite protest by opposition.
The cabinet’s decision followed the Apex Committee of the National Action Plan’s recommendation to launch a military operation in response to the recent rise in terrorism and extremism in Pakistan.
The DG ISPR the Operation Azm-e-Istehkam is a serious matter but it is being politicised. He highlighted that there was an increase in organised propaganda and misinformation against military.
After the government approved the Azm-e-Istehkam, it was propagated that people were being ousted from different areas, he said while denying it.
Pakistan saw uptick in terror attacks, with fatalities rising as TTP and other militants in Afghanistan continue to attack Pakistan from Afghanistan soil. Tehreek e Taliban Pakistan was identified as the most active terrorist group in Afghanistan, responsible for the majority of terrorism-related deaths there.
