Israel-Gaza war live updates: Aid trucks cross Rafah border, providing first relief to besieged Gaza Strip

CAIRO, Egypt — Trucks carrying humanitarian aid passed through the Rafah crossing from Egypt into Gaza on Saturday for the first time since the war erupted. U.N. officials hope the 20-truck convoy will mark the start of a sustainable effort to provide aid to the people of Gaza, who are facing dire conditions after Israel announced a “complete siege,” earlier this month, cutting them off from food, water and fuel. Israel’s military said Saturday that the aid — which included food and medical supplies but no fuel — was earmarked for those living in the south of the strip only. In Gaza, the official-Hamas controlled press agency said the first “limited convoy” was not enough to “change the humanitarian catastrophe” unfolding in the enclave, and called for a “safe corridor” for aid to enter on an ongoing basis.
