Amazon’s Clubhouse competitor Amp which allowed users to act like radio DJs by playing music, is shutting down soon.
In an internal memo, Steve Boom, the vice president of Amazon Music, shared the decision of shutting the app down. He added, “It only became clear after months of careful consideration determining the investments Amazon wants to make for the future.”
An Amazon account user with the Amp app can host live shows, where they have access to a vast library of licensed songs. They can create playlists and share these songs with their followers. Amp users also can participate in live shows by calling in and asking questions to the hosts. The app for now is available for download and is still airing live radio shows.
As per Tech Crunch, the app, after being introduced in March 2022, had nearly 700,000 monthly active users in July. Moreover, the company cut almost half of Amp’s staff last year during mass layoffs.
